ON TOUR: FUJIFILM Healthcare Academy Launches Standardised Basic Colonoscopy Training Course In Africa

A milestone achieved in connecting worldwide healthcare education

25.06.2025

Last November, FUJIFILM Healthcare Academy took the Global Endoscopy Training Programme to Uganda, Africa!
Accompanied by a professional film crew, the FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe team delivered the first-in-series ‘Standardised Basic Colonoscopy Training’ launch event for the Growth Emerging Markets (GEM), in East Africa’s vibrant city of Kampala (Uganda).

Home to a population of 50 million, Uganda is the first African country to experience FUJIFILM’s Growth Emerging Markets (GEM) initiative for improved access to ‘One Global Standard’ of endoscopy training across the world.

“This is one of a kind”

Medical Director, General Surgeon, Uganda,

Dr Okwir Dennis

“Most local training is not standardised (in Uganda) and there are gaps in the skills required for colonoscopy.”

Head of Gastrointestinal Surgery and Endoscopy, Uganda

Dr Basimbe Francis

“At FUJIFILM, we are bringing global-level education to local markets, by offering the same training in each country. This move is intended to harmonise educational standards, providing a uniform experience across all regions, which is unprecedented in these markets.”

General Manager, Endoscopy Division , FUJIFILM Healthcare

Tatsuhiko Saeki

We kick-started the initiative with an expert-led practical training on “Standardised Basic Colonoscopy” delivered by renowned medical educator Dr. Mostafa Ibrahim, Founder of the ROEYA Training Center, an educational provider to more than 80 international centres worldwide.

ON TOUR

GEMS Basic Colonoscopy Training Uganda

Designed to provide endoscopy education and practical training, Growth Emerging Markets (GEM) Training includes screening, diagnosis, investigation and medical intervention for endoscopy professionals.

The GEM Training Programmes series is exclusively designed and delivered by FUJIFILM Healthcare Academy across 16 different countries. With accessibility at its core, Fujifilm Healthcare Academy’s work is integral to the advancement and standardisation of medical practices around Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

We realise the challenges of training endoscopists in the GEM region. Inconsistent education guidelines and limited understanding of local health systems can make it difficult to achieve good results.

WHY AFRICA?

“There is a significant and growing need for education and training in the emerging markets, which encompass over 80 countries. French and English-speaking regions in Africa are a vast area representing one of the largest and most crucial markets for the future.”

General Manager, Endoscopy Division ,

Tatsuhiko Saeki,

We are proud to share the Fujifilm EndoSolutions Portfolio of expert-led courses to assist the Academy in implementing comprehensive training initiatives across the entirety of the patient pathway, giving physicians access to high-quality training across all regions.
