Spain has become one of the first European countries to implement the ELUXEO® 8000 advanced endoscopy system in a public hospital.

Madrid, 3 April, 2025

The Ramón y Cajal University Hospital in Madrid is a the first pioneering institution in Europe that has deployed the new ELUXEO® 8000 system by FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe to enhance patient care and explore its capabilities. Coinciding with the wider ELUXEO® 8000 launch in Europe, the system was inaugurated during a special opening ceremony at Ramón y Cajal Hospital, one of the first centers in Europe to equip their endoscopy unit with the new FUJIFILM endoscopy system. It was a great moment for the endoscopy community with an opening ceremony held in the presence of specialists from the hospital, including Dr. Agustín Albillos, Head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department and Dr. Enrique Vasquez-Sequerios, Head of Endoscopy at Ramón y Cajal Hospital. Already in the region for the European launch, it was a well-timed visit from Tatsuhiko Saeki, General Manager of FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe’s Endoscopy Division and Pedro Mesquita, General Manager of Fujifilm Iberia, to join the inauguration celebrations. This exciting event corresponded with the leading industry congress, ESGE Days 2025, where live cases using the new endoscopy system were broadcasted from Ramón y Cajal Hospital to ESGE Days attendees.

Benefits of ELUXEO® 8000:

The ELUXEO® 8000 focuses on new possibilities in advanced treatment scenarios. The new ACI mode (Amber-Red Color Imaging), not only supports the detection of bleeding sources, but can also be beneficial during minimally invasive third-space endoscopy treatment. Studies are still in progress with the endoscopy community. However, initial feedback from international experts has suggested that the ACI mode provides improved visibility of the different layers during third space endoscopy procedures and could therefore help endoscopists to prevent bleeding.* Especially valuable in advanced therapeutic procedures, ELUXEO® 8000, helps to distinguish the muscular layer from the mucosal and submucosal layers, significantly reducing potential complications during interventions. For procedures involving tissue sampling that often leads to bleeding, ACI offers greater agility in prophylactic treatment.

Moreover, its workflow management tools, connected systems, and data integration capabilities are designed to simplify and enhance daily medical practices. For instance, the system can help to prevent accidental double insufflation of air and CO2 during a single procedure and allows water irrigation at the push of a button.

"We appreciate the trust that Ramón y Cajal Hospital has placed in Fujifilm, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration as a strong supporter of their innovation strategies. The arrival of our most advanced equipment to their endoscopy unit demonstrates this commitment, and we believe the results achieved with this system will greatly benefit patients,” - Tatsuhiko Saeki, General Manager, FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe, Endoscopy Division (comments during the inauguration event).
